Psychological Testing

What is psychological testing?

It’s a series of measures which are used to identify and understand a person’s cognitive, social, emotional, developmental, academic, and personality strengths and weaknesses.

How can it help me or my child?

In short, it can help you gain a better understand of why and how certain emotional, behavioral or relational patterns exist. This information will help to create a more thorough treatment plan and give appropriate recommendations.

What is the process for psychological testing?

Step 1: Complimentary Consultation - During this conversation we gather information about your needs and determine if testing is appropriate. If testing isn’t appropriate we will give you other recommendations for next steps.

If testing is appropriate:

Step 2: Clinical interview (60 minutes) – The clinical interview is where historical and current information regarding symptom development and presentation, developmental history, academic and social functioning, and behavioral health history are gathered.

Step 3: Testing sessions (1-2 sessions, 2-4 hours in length) – During the testing sessions, the psychological assessments identified to target the specific areas in question are administered. Testing may be completed in one session or over the course of several sessions.

Step 4: Feedback session – During the feedback session, you will be provided with a comprehensive report containing the results of the assessments administered, diagnostic information if applicable, as well as relevant recommendations.

Step 5: Implement Recommendations – After you get the results of the testing, it’s time to implement the recommendations. We can help you implement your plan whether those services are with Village Wellness or other community resources.

How long does the process take from start to finish?

Waiting is hard, so we try not to make you wait too long. Typically, once the clinical interview and testing sessions are completed, the feedback session will be scheduled 2-3 weeks later.

What is the cost for testing?

The cost for psychological testing will vary as it will be determined by the complexity of the case and the amount of time needed to complete the comprehensive report. Each case is unique and the assessment tools selected are based on the needs of each client. The cost of assessment starts at $1800.
